BRIEF STATION HISTORY
The CLEETHORPES RNLI is a registered charity providing a 24-hour on-call lifeboat search and rescue service up to 50 miles out from the coast.
Cleethorpes RNLI was established in 1868. In the early days about 20 crew members were needed to row a wooden lifeboat, and often residents would be called upon to help launch it . Now only four crew members go out on the lifeboat, and it is launched using a soft track machine which is a purpose built all-terrain vehicle . In 1994 Cleethorpes joined 5 other stations by becoming a "Blue Peter" station.
Cleethorpes' lifeboat crew go out on about 50 jobs a year. |
